Occupational Therapist
Joy MacDonald is a highly experienced Occupational Therapist with over 14 years of NHS practice, supporting individuals in both physical rehabilitation and mental health care. She holds a First-Class Honours degree in Occupational Therapy from Brunel University and is registered with the HCPC, as well as a professional member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.
Joy’s early career began in social care, working with children and young people, before transitioning to neurological rehabilitation and later, adult community mental health. Her current NHS role involves supporting adults with a wide range of mental health conditions, including OCD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), as well as clients with co-occurring neurodivergence.
With a person-centred approach, Joy explores the interplay of biological, psychological, and social factors that influence recovery. She specialises in helping individuals reconnect with meaningful daily activities – whether in self-care, leisure, or productivity – and is particularly skilled in supporting clients with pacing, sensory regulation, and restoring occupational balance after periods of burnout or disruption.
Joy believes that recovery is often about finding stability in the everyday. She works collaboratively with clients to set realistic, occupation-based goals and to re-establish a life of purpose and satisfaction at a pace that feels right for them.
I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for saving my partners life. Nine months ago we asked you for help. My partner was near death from his issues. You have given my children their dad back and I will forever be eternally grateful.
