What is Stress?

Acute stress

This is short-term stress triggered by specific events, such as public speaking or a job interview. It can be intense but usually passes quickly.

Chronic stress

This occurs when stress continues over a prolonged period – often related to ongoing life difficulties, such as relationship breakdowns or high-pressure careers. Chronic stress can increase the risk of heart disease, depression, and burnout.

Acute stress disorder

Caused by a traumatic event, Acute stress disorder presents with symptoms like anxiety, flashbacks, or emotional numbness lasting between 3 days and 1 month. If left untreated, it may develop into Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

High-functioning stress

Individuals with high-functioning stress often appear successful and in control, but behind the scenes, they’re struggling with constant anxiety, sleep issues, and emotional exhaustion. This form of stress can be especially difficult to spot and is often linked to burnout.
